We would use a picture of Marty and Perry here - if we had one.

Not-so Junior OP Jeff @ the Menominee Key

That's a home-made p-p UX210 Hartley TX behind the key. Above are a National FB7X and a Browning Preselector. Note knife-type antenna changeover switch and the Wilcox-Gay "calling all cars" loudspeaker. And it all sits on a period porceline-enameled kitchen table. Hence monniker.

Transmitter was built for the AWA '29 TX contest rules & set to run 20W during wee hours and 10W otherwise. But's capable of more & is hence a Cheatin' Hartley.

It's a close cousin to a Forest Service set turned GI mule-pack radio. I and Perry W8AU owned these MOPA tiny transmitters but I actually put one OTA once in the 2/97 CX. Crick

--->here<---

to hear such a set over the 500mi circuit from Atlanta to Massilon, OH on 80M.

If you copy the CW, you'll hear the GI set identified and a quality comment alluding to one applied by Jeeves in the ARRL cartoon that launched the WOUFF HONG award

It's my bet that this is THE ONLY time one of these GI sets was used in a contest. And I don't plan on it again because using it's regenerative RX is a woolley booger. (southern US for 'tough assignment')
